The writing you do in these discussions represents the seminar components of this course. In lieu of a formal essay, you will engage in dialogue with your peers in the Discussion area of this course. Through the discussions you should demonstrate your understanding of the readings, your ability to use this dialogue to understand them better through peer discussion and asking questions, and an ability to contextualize the readings in relationship to other readings, contemporary art concepts, and practices, and/or your own work and ideas. These discussions allow you to engage with the course material and ask questions about the concepts so that you can contextualize it with the artwork you are seeing and making. Use the discussions to help clarify the course material and see how your peers are thinking about the ideas in the readings. Writing about the readings also helps to formulate your own ideas in relation to these theorists.
